Background Information

Sound Explorations: Creating, Expressing, and Improving Communities is supported by a 6th Digital Media and Learning Competition Grant, with support from the McArthur Foundation.

You can find out more information on the Sound Explorations project on this info site.

If you have additional questions about the project or would like to be more involved, please contact Evan Tobias [citme at asu.edu]

What is the purpose of playtesting this project?

This project is being developed by a large group of consultants, content experts, music educators, and young people. It is being developed in an iterative process, meaning you and the young people in your program will be interacting with draft versions under constant development.

The perspectives of young people and adults such as you are extremely important to us in order to inform how we design and develop the music learning playlists. We want the end results to be as engaging, meaningful, and useful to you and young people as possible. Playtesting the project is a helpful way to try out different versions of the project and to provide an opportunity for people to share feedback with us.

What is the timeframe of the playtesting?

Round 1 will take place through May.

The playtesting is designed to be as flexible as you need in your program.

You can decide:

  • How many times or how often to playtest learning experiences & playlists
  • How the playtesting should occur in your program
  • Who will playtest the project
  • Which playlists you will playtest

We are happy to discuss multiple options that will work best for you and the youth in your program.

What if I am interested in the project but cannot playtest by the June deadline?

You can still be involved!

After the first round of playtesting, we will continue developing and expanding our music learning playlists during the Fall.

Just let us know that you would like to be involved and we will follow up with you.

Can I earn professional development hours for my involvement?

Yes!

Beginning in Fall 2017 you can earn professional development hours from Arizona State University School of Music for your involvement in playtesting or related engagement with the Sound Explorations project.

Contact Dr. Tobias if this is of interest and we will follow up with additional information.
