Musical Playgrounds

How might we encourage, support, and facilitate musical play in varied indoor and outdoor settings?

CITME collaborates with others to help develop musical playgrounds or support interactive musical engagement in existing places where play occurs.

We are drawing on our experience and iterative design with our Sound and Music Innovation Lab (SMIL) and Participatory Music Pop Ups to mobilize the ideas and projects that emerge into portable and sustainable solutions for musical play in communities.

Mesa Prototyping Festival

CITME is involved in a collaboration involving the development of interactive musical events and installations for the Mesa Prototyping Festival. Students from a Community Music Engagement course, the Design school, our Sound and Music Innovation Lab’s Music and Media Arts Maker Group, and partnering music educators are developing systems that can be implemented as part of a temporary musical playground during the Mesa Prototyping Festival.
