How can I create instruments and interfaces with microcontrollers?

This is a mini-playlist for XP5: How can I create an instrument or interface?

This playlist (option C) is designed to help you get started creating instruments and interfaces with microcontrollers such as the Arduino.

We’re going to experiment with creating an instrument that can communicate with a computer and has some electronics as part of it.

All XPs in this mini-playlist are mandatory for completing XP5 and the Getting Started Creating Instruments and Interfaces Music Learning Playlist:

Xp5C1 – How can I get access to a microcontroller?

Xp5C2 – How can I find or get access to the Arduino IDE?

XP5C3 – How can I make a circuit to make music?

XP5C4 – How can I program a microcontroller to make sound?

XP5C5 – How can I use the interface I built to play melodies that I create?

XP5C6 – How can I control sounds using a microcontroller?

Share What you Learned

If you are using the LRNG platform:

  • Go back, find out what to submit, and complete the XP
  • You only need to submit what you learned for XP5C6 to complete this mini-playlist
  • If you want, you can then learn even more with the optional “Go Further!” activities below

If you are not using the LRNG platform:

  • Continue below and share with your teacher or organization:

Sharing What You Learned

  • Share a brief video of you or someone you know playing music with your microcontroller instrument/interface.
  • In your video give a short explanation of how you made your instrument
